Leszek Henryk Balcerowicz (pronounced [ˈlɛʂɛk balt͡sɛˈrɔvit͡ʂ] ⓘ; born 19 January 1947) is a Polish economist, statesman, and Professor at Warsaw School of Economics. He served as Chairman of the National Bank of Poland (2001–2007) and twice as Deputy Prime Minister of Poland (1989–1991, 1997–2001).

Leszek Balcerowicz is considered the architect of Poland's economic reforms initiated in 1989. He designed and executed the radical stabilization and transformation of the Polish economy since the fall of communism in Poland.
In what Balcerowicz calls the “era of extraordinary politics” (1989–91), he was able to push through his radical reform plan. (Poland was the first post-communist country to do so.)
