Barnes held several positions within the Labour Party and the governmentduring his political career. He was Vice Chairman of the Labour Party in theHouse of Commons, 1908 - 1910, and Chairman, 1910 - 1911. He was Chief of theOrganising Department of the Independent Labour Party in 1909.
