Sir Māui Wiremu Pita Naera Pōmare KBE CMG (1875 or 1876 – 27 June 1930) was a New Zealand medical doctor and politician, being counted among the more prominent Māori political figures. He is particularly known for his efforts to improve Māori health and living conditions.
Māui Pōmare was the first Māori doctor. As Māori Medical Officer, toured Māori districts in this role, advising people about public health. Pōmare became a member of Parliament in 1911, and minister of health in the 1920s.
Māui Wiremu Piti Naera Pōmare was one of the generation of Māori leaders educated at Te Aute College in the 1890s who were to assume positions of leadership in both the Māori and Pākehā worlds. His birthplace was Pāhau pā, Ōnaera, near Urenui, Taranaki.

Sir Māui Wiremu Piti Naera Pōmare was the first Māori medical practitioner, a medical health officer and politician. Dr. Pōmare was a part of the leading generation of Māori which were able to seek higher education, which was integral for his work within the Māoridom during the 1800s - 1900s.
27 June 1936. Māori and Pākehā from around the country converged on Manukorihi Pā in Waitara, Taranaki, to attend the unveiling of a memorial to ‘one of New Zealand’s greatest men’, Sir Māui Pōmare, of Ngāti Mutunga and Ngāti Toa.
