Leonard Joseph Tristano (March 19, 1919 – November 18, 1978) was an American jazz pianist, composer, arranger, and teacher of jazz improvisation. Tristano studied for bachelor's and master's degrees in music in Chicago before moving to New York City in 1946.
Lennie Tristano, American jazz pianist, a major figure of cool jazz and an influential teacher. His music was considered cool jazz because of its detachment from emotion, but his rhythmic urgency and incisiveness and his linear clarity indicated a passionate quest for pure lyricism.

Lennie Tristano, also known as Tristano, is a 1956 album by jazz pianist Lennie Tristano. At its release, the album was controversial for its innovative use of technology, with Tristano overdubbing piano and manipulating tape speed for effect on the first four tracks.
