During World War II, an American military hospital ship hits a Japanese naval mine in the Pacific Ocean. Lieutenant Elizabeth Smythe, a nurse, and Michael J. "Chicken" Dolan, a Marine Corporal, are the only survivors. The two wash up on the remote and uninhabited 'Saterday Island'.
