Um dia, a cabeça de uma estátua sagrada de Buda (chamado Ong Bak), é roubada de uma pequena aldeia, por um empresário imoral que a pretende vender por lucros exorbitantes. Os aldeões realizam uma cerimónia em honra de Ong-bak, onde lhe fazem oferendas, acreditando, que este trará chuva para a região assolada pela seca.
Na aldeia rural do nordeste da Tailândia, Ban Nong Pradu, encontra-se uma antiga estátua de Buda chamada Ong-Bak. A aldeia cai em desespero depois de ladrões de Bangkok decapitarem a estátua e levarem a cabeça com eles.
