Yelena Lvovna Shushunova (Russian: Елена Львовна Шушунова; sometimes spelled Elena Shushunova; 23 May 1969 – 16 August 2018) was a Soviet Russian gymnast.

16 de ago. de 2018 · Shushunova earned two golds, a silver and a bronze at the Seoul 1988 Games at age 19. She beat Romanian Daniela Silivas by .025 of a point in the all-around, needing and scoring a 10 on her final apparatus on vault to take gold outright.

By the end of her productive career, Shushunova won eleven world championships medals (five gold), and four Olympic medals, two of them gold. She will forever be known as one of the most explosive, dynamic and original performers in the history of gymnastics.
Yelena Shushunova and Lyudmila Turishcheva are the only two female gymnasts who have won the grand slam of all-around titles – Olympic Games, World Championships, World Cup and European Championships. Shushunova took up gymnastics at the age of six and made the Soviet national team in 1984, just in time for the 1984 Olympics.
