Mitchell grew up in Miami, Florida. He received a B.A. in English and Drama from the Claflin University in 1993.
He then continued his education at the Alliance Theatre Professional Actor Internship and later earned Master of Fine Arts in Acting from the University of New York in 1999.
•Originally, Paul was not a character being cast for. However, the producers were impressed with E. Roger Mitchell's performance that the character Paul was created for him, after he did not get the role of "Citizen" that he auditioned for.
