Heath Grammar School History – The Crossley Heath School. The first significant date in this history of Heath Grammar School is February 15th 1585 when Queen Elizabeth signed the charter establishing “the free grammar school of Queen Elizabeth.”
The Crossley Heath School is an 11–18 mixed, grammar school and sixth form with academy status in Halifax, West Yorkshire, England. It was established in 1985 following the amalgamation of Heath Grammar School and Crossley and Porter School. It is part of The Crossley Heath School Academy Trust Limited.
Heath Grammar School [1585–1985], the establishment, undoubtedly has its place in History. The ethos and values of the School are still and always will be present under the guise of The Crossley Heath School.
About Us. We have a long and rich history as a school dating back to 1585 when the original Heath Grammar School was established. The current school building dates to 1861 when the Crossley brothers founded an ‘Orphan Home and School for Boys and Girls’, later renamed ‘Crossley and Porter School’.
2 de mar. de 2019 · Further evidence for an earlier grammar school seems to come from the list of subscribers to the new building in 1597. Three of them are described as ‘former scholars.’ Link the existence of the grammar school with the actions of the vicars Ashbourne, father and son, and there may be a solution.

The Admissions Authorities of North Halifax Grammar School and The Crossley Heath School are consulting on changes they propose to make to their Admissions Policies for entry to their schools in September 2025.
