  1. Benjamin Herschel Babbage (6 August 1815 – 22 October 1878) was an English engineer, scientist, explorer and politician, best known for his work in the colony of South Australia. He invariably signed his name "B. Herschel Babbage" and was frequently referred to as "Herschel Babbage".

  3. 22 de mar. de 2017 · He wrote repeatedly to the government, and at last in April 1850 a government inspector called Benjamin Herschel Babbage carried out an official inspection. He was shocked by what he found, and the results of his report, and Patrick’s persistence, were that Haworth gained a reservoir, a cleaner water supply and more toilets.

  4. In 1858 he led an expedition in South Australia towards Lake Torrens, exploring the eastern shores of Lake Gairdner, Lake Maefarlane, Lake Hart and Island Lagoon. The botanist on the latter expedition was J.F.A.D.Herrgott. Specimens from both expeditions are in Kew (K) and Melbourne (MEL).

  7. Benjamin Herschel Babbage b. 1815. Also known as B. H. Babbage. Artist (Draughtsman), Artist (Photographer) Sketcher who trained as an engineer. Babbage was also an amateur photographer, architect, scientist and explorer. His pen-and-ink expedition sketches were shown in Adelaide at the 1859 South Australian Society of Arts exhibition.
