Ipswich Female Seminary was an American female seminary in Ipswich, Massachusetts. The institution was an early school for the secondary and tertiary education of young women. Enrollment averaged 116 students.
29 de dez. de 2022 · The Ipswich Female Seminary was established in April 1828 by Zilpah Grant and 24-year-old Mary Lyon for the secondary and college-level education of young women. It was the first endowed seminary for women and the first to give diplomas to its graduates.
31 de ago. de 2013 · The young women appear to be a group of Ipswich Female Seminary students. Behind them is the High St. house owned by undertaker and upholsterer George Haskell, directly across from North Main St. (The location is now the parking lot for the Ipswich Inn.)
Zilpah Polly Grant Banister (May 30, 1794 – December 3, 1874) was an American educator known primarily for founding Ipswich Female Seminary in Ipswich, Massachusetts, in 1828. Zilpah Grant began teaching at the age of fifteen.
