Sylvie and the Ghost (French: Sylvie et le fantôme) is a 1946 French fantasy/comedy film directed by Claude Autant-Lara and starring Odette Joyeux, François Périer and Pierre Larquey. It was shot at the Saint-Maurice Studios in Paris. The film's sets were designed by the art directors Jacques Krauss and Lucien Carré.
Odette Joyeux stars as Sylvie, in love with a long-dead romantic figure from her family’s past. Sylvie’s father hires three actors to impersonate the ghost of her beloved, while the spirit himself (Jacques Tati, in his first feature-film role) stalks the grounds.

On Sylvia’s 16th birthday, her father decides to amuse the girl by having the “ghost” make an appearance, and to that end engages the services of three men–a valet, a ham actor and a burglar–to impersonate the wraith.

Film Synopsis. S ylvie is an imaginative 16 year old girl who has fallen in love with a man in an old portrait - Alain de Francigny, her grandmother's lover, who died many years ago in a duel. She is upset when her father is forced to sell the painting to allow them to go on living in their old château.
