Romance as a whole is thus seen as forming an integrated vision of the world, a “secular scripture” whose hero is man, paralleling the sacred scripture whose hero is God. The "secular scripture" in the title of this study thus amounts to fiction in general, with romance (directly descended from folktale) as its core. In sum, this is a'study toward which I have mixed feelings.
