A Taste of Honey is a 1961 British New Wave drama film directed by Tony Richardson and starring Rita Tushingham, Dora Bryan, Robert Stephens and Murray Melvin. It is an adaptation of the 1958 play of the same name by Shelagh Delaney .

Jo is an awkward, shy 17-year-old girl living with her promiscuous alcoholic mother, Helen. Desperately longing to simply be loved, when her mother's latest "romance" drives Jo out of their apartment, she spends the night with a black sailor on a brief shore leave.
Made in 1961, A Taste of Honey tells the story of a working class Salford schoolgirl who meets, falls in love with, and falls pregnant to, a black British sailor. When he later leaves her, she plans to raise the child with her gay best friend.
