Filming Begins & More Cameos Announced
Not long after the film was given its first big update in years, the latest news sees This Is Spinal Tap 2 begin filming. The long-gestating legacy sequel finally began rolling in early March 2024 with the trio of aging rockers returning for another hilarious adventure. Along with the announcement that the Rob Reiner movie has begun filming, it has also been revealed that musicians Questlove and Trisha Yearwood will be joining the film's stacked cameo roster.
The Band Is Getting Back Together 40 Years Later
This Is Spinal Tap 2 was officially confirmed back in May 2022, and the announcement came as a shock to many who had written the sequel off entirely. On top of that, the 2022 reveal included word that not only would the original band members return, but so too would director Rob Reiner.
No Release Date Has Been Set Yet
After This Is Spinal Tap 2 was announced in May 2022, information slowed to a trickle regarding the mockumentary sequel, but Rob Reiner has finally given the film a timeline. In March 2024, This Is Spinal Tap 2 began principal photography. While no release date has been provided, this upcoming shooting schedule suggests that the movie will be here sooner rather than later. It can't reasonably be expected in 2024 but could premiere in early 2025.
The Wait Will Be Worth It
In the four decades since the movie, Spinal Tap as a band has put out new content, including albums, live gigs, and a memorable cameo on The Simpsons. The New & Returning Faces
Besides directing This Is Spinal Tap 2, Rob Reiner will be back on-screen as filmmaker and narrator Marty DiBergi. He will be joined by original cast members Harry Shearer as Derek Smalls, Michael McKean as David St. Hubbins, and Christopher Guest as Nigel Tufnel.
