Spitting Out Miracles released. An ambitious album, featuring guest slots by Michelle Shocked on mandolin and Nigel Eaton on hurdy-gurdy (later of Ancient Beatbox and Page & Plant). The band start to build a loyal following, including a youthful Stewart Lee.
By the time of their first American release, Spitting Out Miracles, the Blue Aeroplanes were up to an eight-piece (if you count the dancer and the guy who contributes tapes and records), with an equal number of guests (including Michelle Shocked on mandolin).

Gerard Langley's largely spoken poetic lyrics were combined with a heavily guitar-centric band that went on to release Tolerance (1985) and Spitting Out Miracles (1987) and several singles and EPs whose B-sides were brought together in the compilation FriendLoverPlane (1988), all on the Fire label.
