Ray Eliot Schwartz is a movement artist and activist committed to developing an experiential understanding of the body. He attended high school at the North Carolina School of the Arts, received his BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University and his MFA from University of Texas-Austin.

His educational collaborators have included Mary Lou Seereiter, Ray Elliot Schwartz, Lou Sturm, Ivana Sejenovich, and Diana Sánchez. Lucas George and Fabiana dos Reis Marchiori co-direct BodyMindMovement Brasil, Julia Menendez directs BodyMindMovement México, Leslie Apablaza directs BodyMindMovement Chile, and Felipe Garnica and Emilia Larraondo co-direct BodyMindMovement Colombia.
The facilitator, Ray Eliot Schwartz, draws on over 40 years of the influences of Body Mind Centering®, Authentic Movement, the Feldenkrais Method®, Modern Dance Studies, Contact Improvisation, Traditional Thai Massage, and Zero Balancing™.

A month after recording their first demo in 1984 Jim Kovach was replaced by Ray Schwartz (using the name Raymond Black). This lineup recorded Heir Apparent's debut studio album Graceful Inheritance. [1] . The album was released for European market in January 1986 by an independent French label Black Dragon Records.
