As holy women everywhere aspire to resemble Mary and as we recognise our Lady's ways in the sanctified souls of the cloister, so the Gaels saw in Brigid the likeness of our Lady, and called this remarkable Child of Mary, "the Mary of the Gael."
She is also referred to as "the Mary of the Gael" and the "Mother Saint of Ireland". A less common name is "Brigid of Faughart", after her traditional birthplace. Historicity. There is debate over whether Brigid was a real person.

The apparition of the Blessed Mother at Knock in the 1870s is well known. However, few Irish people seem to have heard of the Weeping Irish Madonna of Gyor Cathedral, Hungary.

Along with Patrick and Columcille she is said to be one of the three patron saints of Ireland. Her legacy and impact on Irish and Scottish Christianity is profound.
The emphasis on Mary as the Mother of Jesus is in line with earlier medieval views of martyrology. Most hymns to Brigit were heavy on praise and light on biography and in Latin hymns she is described “like” Mary but not taken to the complete level of identification as in Irish texts.
1 de fev. de 2017 · There are many spellings of Brigid: Bríg, Brighid, Brigit, Bride, Bride of the Isles, Bridget of Ireland, Brigid of Kildare, Mary of the Gaels. But definitely not to be confused with Bridget Bardot, or Bridget Jones. Or indeed for that matter St. Bridget of Sweden, who died in 1373.
The Saint Mary's Gaels are the athletic teams that compete at Saint Mary's College of California in Moraga, California. The nickname applies to the college's intercollegiate NCAA Division I teams and to the school's club sports teams. Most varsity teams compete in the West Coast Conference.
