John Coltrane with the Red Garland Trio is the third studio album by jazz musician John Coltrane. It was released in early 1958 through Prestige Records. The recording took place in Rudy Van Gelder's home studio on August 23, 1957. It was reissued in 1961 as Traneing In with a new catalogue number and cover design.
Garland became famous in 1955 when he joined the Miles Davis Quintet, featuring John Coltrane, Philly Joe Jones, and Paul Chambers. Davis was a fan of boxing and was impressed that Garland had boxed earlier in his life.

8 de out. de 2023 · The title tune has a long piano introduction with Garland playing mainly single lines effectively. He sets up Coltrane who improvises brightly with medium-tempo blues lines. Chambers plays a solo next and then Garland and Coltrane return for further solo work before taking it out.
