Charles Stuart, 5th Earl of Lennox (April or May 1557 – April 1576), was the fourth son of Matthew Stewart, 4th Earl of Lennox and Lady Margaret Douglas, daughter of Margaret Tudor and granddaughter of King Henry VII of England.

At the time of his father's death in 1571, the earl was acting as regent for the boy king James VI of Scotland and the earldom passed to the Crown.

The Lennoxes had two surviving sons, Henry Stewart, Lord Darnley, and Charles Stewart, later earl of Lennox, but their other six children died in infancy. He returned to Scotland upon Elizabeth I of England´s urging during the marriage negotiations of Mary, Queen of Scots, in 1564.
