Luis Gabriel Portillo Pérez (Gimialcón, Ávila, 1907- London, 1993) was a Spanish professor, left-wing politician and writer who lived in exile in the United Kingdom.

Portillo was born in Bushey, Hertfordshire, on 26 May 1953 to an exiled Spanish republican father, Luis Gabriel Portillo (1907–1993) and a Scottish mother, Cora Waldegrave de Portillo (née Blyth; 1919–2014).

3 de out. de 2020 · In those years, Michael Portillo had already shown his Spanish and British origins because his father Luis Gabriel Portillo, from Ávila, professor at the University of Salamanca, went into exile in Oxford in 1939 and there he met his mother, Cora Blyth, who cared for Basque children refugees from war.
This chapter follows Michael Portillo’s pilgrimage to his late father’s native Spain as part of the BBC television series Great Railway Journeys. Luis Gabriel Portillo was a poet and law professor who stayed loyal to the Republican government when the Spanish Civil War broke out in 1936.
