Binah (meaning "understanding"; Hebrew: בִּינָה Bīnā) is the third sephira on the kabbalistic Tree of Life. It sits on the level below Keter (in the formulations that include that sephirah), across from Chokhmah and directly above Gevurah. It is usually given four paths: from Keter, Chokhmah, to Gevurah and Tiphereth.

Binah is the source of Primordial Wisdom, of which it is the basis and foundation. The understanding of life is at the Binah level of consciousness. In the text called ‘The 32 Paths of Wisdom’ it is called ‘the Sanctifying Intelligence’. In this sephirah are two major forces, that of creation and that of destruction.
Binah foi a primeira manifestação da forma sobre a força. Ela foi responsável por limitar o poder infinitamente expansivo de Chokmah, por isso dizem que a energia de binah é constrituora. Se não fosse isso, só haveria força no Universo, com a ausência de forma. Logo, nenhum ser vivo poderia existir.

Significado. A Séfira de Binah é chamada de Compreensão. Mas também poderia ser chamada de Concretização ou, ainda , a séfira da Estrutura. Ela completa a Tríade Suprema. A Energia Divina vem pura de Kether, entra no processo de dualidade ainda desorganizada em Chockmach e toma forma em Binah.

She is the ground of space and time — not yet expanded, not yet contracted, but the principle of spatiality and temporality itself, ready to give birth to the world.
