Trevelyan, Sir George Otto (1838–1928), 2nd baronet, historian and chief secretary for Ireland, was born 20 July 1838 at Rothley Temple, Leicestershire, only son of Sir Charles Edward Trevelyan (qv), assistant secretary to the treasury 1846–52, and his first wife, Hannah More (d. 1872), sister of Lord Macaulay (d. 1859).
