Norwegian National Academy of Craft and Art Industry. Coordinates: 59°55′06″N 10°44′35″E. Oslo National Academy of the Arts at Grünerløkka. The National College of Art and Design ( Norwegian: Statens håndverks- og kunstindustriskole) was established in 1818.
The Oslo National Academy Norway’s largest public institution of higher learning for artists and designers. We offer 21 study programmes within the fields of fine art, design, art and craft, opera, dance, theatre and arts education.
It is one of two public institutes of higher learning in Norway that teaches in visual arts and design, the other being the Bergen National Academy of the Arts in Bergen. KHiO was created by merging five former colleges, or national academies: of Arts and Crafts; Fine Arts; Opera; Ballet, and Theatre (Statens teaterhøgskole ).
But already after one year he chose to defy his father, and switched from engineering college to the Norwegian National Academy of Craft and Art Industry in Kristiania, now Oslo. The Oslo National Academy of the Arts currently offers 24 study programmes, and consists of six departments: Design, Art and Craft, The Academy of Fine Art, The Academy of Dance, The Academy of Opera, and The Academy of Theatre.
The Art and Craft department offers an art training in the fields of ceramics, textile, print and drawing, metal and jewellery, art and public space. The department has an experimental approach to workshop-based art practices.
