  3. 16 de fev. de 2024 · Lawrence Parsons, 4th Earl of Rosse KP (November 17, 1840 - August 29, 1908) was the son and successor of the astronomer William Parsons, 3rd Earl of Rosse who built the "Leviathan of Parsonstown" telescope, largest of its day, and his wife, the Countess Rosse (née Mary Field), an amateur astronomer and pioneering photographer.

Lawrence Parsons, 4th Earl of Rosse (1840--1908), the son of Lord and Mary Rosse, eighteenth Chancellor of the University of Dublin between 1885 and 1908, and Fellow of the Royal Society (1867), was also interested in astronomy, mechanical engineering, and was active as amateur astronomer and added equipment to the telescopes.

Like his father, he pursued astronomy and is known for his attempt to design a truly flat mirror to use in a telescope. Lord Rosse succeeded his father as the 4th Earl of Rosse in 1867.
