The University of Tartu ( UT; Estonian: Tartu Ülikool; Latin: Universitas Tartuensis) is a public research university located in the city of Tartu, Estonia. It is the national university of Estonia. [2] It also consists of the largest and oldest university in the country. [3]
The University of Tartu held a monopoly on higher education in the western provinces of the Russian Empire, forming close relationships in the east with the Academy of Sciences in St. Petersburg and in the west with German universities.
15 de fev. de 2024 · Imperial University of Dorpat (1802-1917) — the second of the twelve Imperial Universities of the Russian Empire. In 1893 it was renamed the Imperial University of Yuryev.
It is shown that Dorpat University (now: Tartu University, Estonia), having once taken a leading position within the imperial University system, lagged behind other universities by the mid-1880s. This lag was caused by a comparative decrease in growth rates of its faculty.

1 de jan. de 2011 · In the middle of the nineteenth century, the University of Dorpat was searching for its position within the system of higher education in Russia.
In 1828 he finished the Faculty of Medicine and entered the Imperial University of Dorpat where he studied under Professor Moyer (who had himself studied under Antonio Scarpa) and received a doctorate on ligation of the ventral aorta in 1832.
Georg Friedrich Parrot (15 July 1767 – 8 July 1852) was a German scientist, the first rector of the Imperial University of Dorpat (today Tartu, Estonia) in what was then the Governorate of Livonia of the Russian Empire.
