The Chordettes were an American female vocal quartet, specializing in traditional pop music. They are best known for their 1950s hit singles "Mr. Sandman" and "Lollipop", both of which sold over a million copies. Career. The group organized in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, in 1946.

A member of The Chordettes, Marjorie Needham Latzko, lived in Blooming Grove for 56 years. On July 1, 1953, Marjorie Needham joined the quartet by replacing its founding member, Jinny Osborn. In 1954, Needham, along with Carol Buschmann, Janet Ertel, and Lynn Evans, recorded what was to become a huge hit, “Mr. Sandman."

In later years, Carol Buschmann and Margie Latzko are the only surviving members left, as of this writing. The Chordettes, one of pop history’s longest-living vocal groups during their time, was inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2001.
1947: Carol Buschmann, baritone vocals, replaced Alice Spielvogel, her sister-in-law, in 1947. 1952: Lynn (Hargate) (Evans) Mand, lead vocals, replaced Schwartz. 1953: Margie (Needham) Latzko, tenor vocals, replaced Osborn (who was having a baby), though Osborn later returned to the group.
