Atlantic Recording Corporation (simply known as Atlantic Records) is an American record label founded in October 1947 by Ahmet Ertegun and Herb Abramson.

The History of Atlantic Records. Atlantic Records was founded in 1947 by Ahmet Ertegun and Herb Abramson, two visionaries who shared a passion for music, particularly rhythm and blues.
Through college, Ertegun, son of the Turkish Ambassador to the United States, supplemented his allowance by making and selling records. He and Abramson set up shop as Atlantic in the latter part of 1947. Their first records, jazz sides by Tiny Grimes and Errol Garner, came out in 1948.
