Sarah Vaughan, reissued in 1991 as Sarah Vaughan with Clifford Brown, is a 1955 jazz album featuring singer Sarah Vaughan and trumpeter Clifford Brown, released on the EmArcy label. It was the only collaboration between the two musicians.
“April in Paris” gets an elegant treatment with Vaughan singing an exquisite first chorus supported only by Jones, and a cup-muted Brown offering perfectly modulated responses in Vaughan’s second chorus.
29 de jun. de 2020 · Sarah Vaughan with Clifford Brown lands us nine years later, with Vaughan recording on Mercury’s jazz-focused sublabel EmArcy, following a stint of pop recordings with Columbia. Among all of Vaughan’s accompanists on the record Brown gets first billing even before the re-titled reissues.
6 de out. de 2021 · Although Vaughan does sometimes scat, as here on Lullaby Of Birdland with its relaxed medium-paced swing, her primary method was to elongate the notes, usually pitched as written but with a well-controlled vibrato, rarely if ever disrespecting the essence of the melody. The band is a credit to her.
