The Cowan Bridge School was a Clergy Daughters' School, founded in the 1820s, at Cowan Bridge in the English county of Lancashire. It was mainly for the daughters of middle class clergy and attended by the Brontë sisters. In the 1830s it moved to Casterton, Cumbria, a few miles away. History.

Cowan Bridge comprises a small cluster of approximately six or seven cottages, situated at both ends of a bridge that spans a little stream named the Leck. This bridge marks the intersection of the high road connecting Leeds to Kendal.
The Bronte sisters attended the Cowan Bridge school (now Bronte School House) in 1824-25; Charlotte famously based Jane Eyre's Lowood on her experiences there!
1 de abr. de 2013 · Going back in the time, searching for the school the Bronte Sisters visited, and see.....it is still all there ( not all, part of it is demolished). VISIT to Cowan Bridge, where part of the Lowood School of Jane Eyre is still in existence, reveals a beautiful little hamlet near Kirkby Lonsdale.
