George William Herbert, 7th Earl of Powis (4 June 1925 – 13 August 1993), was a British peer who sat in the House of Lords between 1988 and 1993.
He was succeeded by his second cousin, the 7th Earl. He was the son of the Right Reverend Percy Mark Herbert, Bishop of Blackburn and of Norwich, son of Major-General the Hon. William Henry Herbert, fifth son of the second Earl. As of 2020 the peerages are held by his son, the 8th Earl, who succeeded in 1993.
The Herbert family is an Anglo-Welsh noble family founded by William Herbert, known as "Black William", the son of William ap Thomas, founder of Raglan Castle, a follower of Edward IV of England in the Wars of the Roses.
His descendants continued until at least 1988, when George William Herbert (b. 1925), 7th earl, succeeded in 1988. Powis Castle was bequeathed to the National Trust in 1952, although it remained in part a private home until 1988.
