Biography. Iziaslav was the oldest son of Yaroslav I the Wise by his second wife Ingigerd Olafsdottir. Iziaslav succeeded his father, after Yaroslav's oldest child, Vladimir (the only child by Yaroslav's first wife), had predeceased his father.

Izyaslav now reigned in Kiev as the rightful ruler, giving his younger brother Vsyevolod, Chernigiv and to Vsyevolod's son Vladimir, Smolensk. He gave Novgorod to his son, Svyatopolk, and to his other son Yaropolk, Vishgorod.
IZYASLAV I. (1024 – 1078), grand prince of Kiev and progenitor of the Turov dynasty. Before Yaroslav Vladimirovich "the Wise" died in 1054, he designated his eldest living son, Izyaslav, as grand prince of Kiev. Izyaslav and his younger brothers Svyatoslav and Vsevolod ruled as a triumvirate for some twenty years.
When Iziaslav I Yaroslavich Rurikid Grand Prince of Kyiv was born in 1027, in Kyiv, Ukraine, his father, Yaroslav Vladimirovich "The Wise" Rurikid Grand Prince of Kiev, was 49 and his mother, Anna Ingegred Olofsdotter av Sverige Grand Princess of Kyiv, was 26. He married Gertrude of Poland about 1043, in Kraków, Poland.
