Mary Hutchinson, née Barnes ( 1889 – 1977 ) A prominent Bloomsbury hostess, she was for several years the acknowledged mistress of the art critic Clive Bell, and became a close friend of T. S. and Vivien Eliot.
Even at the age of 70 she was interested in change and new expressions in art, supporting the publication of the avant-garde literary and artistic magazine, X. She died in 1977, survived by her only child, Lord Hutchinson of Lullington.
Mary Barnes Hutchinson (1889–1977) was a writer, model, patron of the arts, member of the Bloomsbury Group and wife of barrister and politician St. John Hutchinson (1884-1942). She and her husband were friends of George Moore.
