By age 21, Cut was a founding member of both the rap group Jurassic 5 and the Grammy award winning Latin funk outfit, Ozomatli. His involvement with both groups helped develop a taste for music and rhythms from around the world while keeping his passion for the hip hop tradition.
Jurassic 5 is an American alternative hip hop group formed by rappers Charles Stewart , Dante Givens (Akil), Courtenay Henderson (Soup aka Zaakir), Marc Stuart (Marc 7); and disc jockeys Mark Potsic and Lucas Macfadden (Cut Chemist).

Cut Chemist became known through the Los Angeles-based rap group Unity Committee. The group merged with another group, Rebels of Rhythm, to form Jurassic 5. In 2004, Cut Chemist released The Litmus Test, which included his solo tracks, remixes, and Jurassic 5 tracks. He left Jurassic 5 in 2004.

Jurassic 5 is the debut album by American hip hop group Jurassic 5. This album contains all the songs from the Jurassic 5 EP plus a few additional tracks. Pan Records repackaged and released it as Jurassic 5 in 1998.
