Influenced by Jimmie Lunceford (who, like Kenton, enjoyed high-note trumpeters and thick-toned tenors), the Stan Kenton Orchestra struggled a bit after its initial success. Its Decca recordings were not big sellers and a stint as Bob Hope's backup radio band was an unhappy experience; Les Brown permanently took Kenton's place.

27 de mar. de 2009 · Ein Wort noch zu Dee Barton als Drummer: In ihrer großen Zeit Mitte der 40er bis Mitte der 50er hatte die Kenton-Band auch großartige Drummer: Shelly Manne, Frank Capp, Stan Levy und Mel Lewis, und während dieser Zeit hatte die Band auch - allen Unkenrufen zum Trotz - viel Swing. Die Drummer, die danach kamen, brachten das nicht mehr fertig.
