Early in the group's history, before the group named themselves The Statler Brothers, Joe McDorman was their lead singer. The Statlers began their career at a performance at Lyndhurst Methodist Church near their hometown of Staunton, Virginia, under the name The Four Star Quartet.
The Statler Brothers were a quartet of Virginians who sang country, pop, and gospel music for over thirty years. Joe McDorman was one of their original members, but left in 1961 and was replaced by Don Reid.
3 de mai. de 2020 · Harold Reid, Lew DeWitt, Phil Balsley, and Joe McDorman were under the name the Four Star Quartet. In 1958, the group changed their name to the Kingsmen, and by 1962, McDorman had been replaced by Reid’s brother Don.
22 de jul. de 2021 · The Statler Brothers started in 1955, originally performing gospel music with lead vocalist Joe McDorman, bass Harold Reid, baritone Phil Balsley, and tenor Lew DeWitt. The group was formed in their home base in Staunton, Virginia, and they called themselves The Four Star Quartet.
By 1948 Harold Reid, Balsley, Joe McDorman, and Lew C. DeWitt from nearby Roanoke County formed a group called the Four Star Quartet. They sang primarily at gospel concerts and church gatherings in the Shenandoah Valley and eventually changed the name of their outfit to the Kingsmen.
Prior to their formation, Harold, Lew, Phil and a lead singer named Joe McDorman sang together as teenagers in a gospel group billed as The Four Star Quartet. In 1961, the group officially reorganized at The Kingsmen with Harold's brother Don replacing McDorman.
