Fue creador de la melodía Chan-chan, 1 e inventor del armónico, un híbrido de siete cuerdas entre la guitarra española y el tres cubano. Este instrumento pretende imitar el timbre del tres adicionando una cuerda octavada en la tercera cuerda (sol). Su afinación es igual a la guitarra.
We show two different sides of Compay Segundo here; the Los Compadres recording 'Los Reyes Del Son', as well as a later album 'Son Oriental', with him fronting his group. Among the bonus tracks added to the latter is 'Hey Caramba', one of his best known songs.
