The Doctor sets the castle's reactors to explode, and they escape in the TARDIS (summoned back from the Vortex) just before it blows, eliminating the War Lords and their technology. But there is still the Timewyrm to deal with, and Dunkirk. The Doctor jumps ahead to 1940.
Timewyrm: Exodus is an original Doctor Who novel, published by Virgin Publishing in their New Adventures range of Doctor Who novels. It is a sequel to author Terrance Dicks' 1969 Second Doctor story The War Games as well as the second part of the ongoing four novel Timewyrm narrative.

The Doctor jettisoned Ishtar and a piece of his TARDIS into the Time Vortex, hoping to destroy her, but she survived in the Vortex, combining her mind with the power of the secondary console room that he had ejected. The Doctor had helped create the Timewyrm by allowing the fusion of the Time Lord technology with the mind of Qataka.
