Henry Clinton (16 de abril de 1730 - Londres, 23 de dezembro de 1795) [1] foi um militar e político do exército britânico, mais conhecido pelo seu serviço como general durante a Guerra da Independência Americana. Sir Henry Clinton (born April 16?, 1730?—died December 23, 1795, Cornwall, England) was the British commander in chief in America during the Revolutionary War. The son of George Clinton, a naval officer and administrator, Henry joined the New York militia in 1745 as a lieutenant.
He proposed and led the double envelopment plan that routed the Continentals on Long Island in 1776 as General Howe’s second in command. Clinton became Commander in Chief of the British Army in America in upon Howe’s recall in 1778 and led his forces in the battles of Monmouth and Charleston .
