Cheddi Jagan was a Guyanese statesman and dentist who led the independence movement and became the first Hindu and Indian leader of a country outside of India. He served as Chief Minister, Premier, President and leader of the People's Progressive Party, and was known as the Father of the Nation in Guyana.
Cheddi Bharat Jagan (22 de março de 1918 – 6 de março de 1997) foi um político Guianense que foi Primeiro Ministro da Guiana Inglesa de 1961 a 1964, antes da independência, e depois, presidente da Guiana (que em inglês, tornou-se "Guyana" após a independência) de 1992 a 1997.
Cheddi Jagan was a politician and union activist who became the first popularly elected prime minister of British Guiana in 1953. He led the People's Progressive Party, a socialist and nationalist movement, and faced political repression and riots during his tenure.
