  2. Madras College, often referred to as Madras, is a Scottish comprehensive secondary school located in St Andrews, Fife. It educates over 1,400 pupils aged between 11 and 18 and was founded in 1833 by the Rev. Dr Andrew Bell.

  3. Madras College takes its name from the system of education devised by the school's founder the Rev Dr Andrew Bell. He was born in St Andrews in 1753, the son of a local magistrate and wig-maker.

  4. Madras College is a co-educational, non-denominational, 6-year comprehensive Secondary school of approximately 1370 learners from across the St Andrews and Bridgehead catchment area. We recognise that all of our learners are individuals and we strive to provide a high level of care and additional support for all.

Andrew Bell FRSE FRAS (27 March 1753 – 27 January 1832) was a Scottish Anglican priest and educationalist who pioneered the Madras System of Education (also known as "mutual instruction" or the "monitorial system") in schools. He was the founder of Madras College, a secondary school in St Andrews, and helped fund other schools.
