Francis Blackwell Forbes (August 11, 1839 – May 2, 1908) was an American botanist with expertise in Chinese seed-producing plants who also worked as a merchant and opium trader in Asia.
Collection of correspondence, financial material, and business papers relating to the China trade of the Forbes family of Milton, Mass., in the 19th century. Includes material of Francis Blackwell Forbes, a son of John M. Forbes and a merchant in China.
Forbes, Francis Blackwell (1839-1908) American botanist who lived in China (1857-1882) where he befriended H.F. Hance and published a checklist of Chinese plants with W.B. Hemsley. His herbarium is at BM and he is commemorated with Euonymus forbesii Hance.
