Joseph Lewis Wheeler (March 16, 1884 – December 3, 1970) was an American librarian. Wheeler was an alumnus of Brown University. He served as director of the Youngstown Public Library from 1916 to 1926. In 1917, Wheeler took a leave of absence from Youngstown Public Library to work in the Library War Service managing 32 camp libraries.
Joe L. Wheeler is a writer and anthologist perhaps best known for his multi-volume Christmas in my Heart and Christmas in my Soul series of story anthologies. Born in 1936, Wheeler was home-schooled for fourteen of the first sixteen years of his life.
Joseph Leininger Wheeler, fondly known as “America’s Keeper of the Story,” has a doctorate in English, and has edited and compiled 94 books of stories that have sold more than 1.5 million copies.
Dr. Wheeler published Zane Grey's West (a fanzine) from 1979 to 1991, and co-founded the international Zane Grey's West Society in 1983; he continues to serve as its executive director. He was the author, editor, and compiler of 70 books by eleven publishing houses, he is considered to be one of America's leading anthologizers of stories.
