Charles Hay Cameron (11 February 1795 – 8 May 1880) was a British jurist. He was married to the photographer Julia Margaret Cameron.

In 1836, convalescing from an illness at the Cape of Good Hope, Julia Margaret Pattle met the scientist and astronomer Sir John Herschel and the classical scholar and jurist Charles Hay Cameron, twenty years her senior. Two years later, in February 1838, she and Cameron were married in Calcutta.

16 de ago. de 2020 · During the same stay in South Africa, Julia Margaret met Charles Hay Cameron (1795 – 1880), a reformer of Indian law and education who would later invest in coffee plantations in Ceylon (now Sri Lanka). They married in Calcutta in 1838 and she became a prominent hostess in colonial society.
Born in Calcutta, Julia Margaret Cameron was the most flamboyant of seven sisters known for their sociability and artistic eccentricity. She moved to England in 1848 when her husband Charles Hay Cameron, a reformer of Indian law and education, retired.
She married Charles Hay Cameron in 1838 and brought up six children. She was given her first camera in 1864 to keep her occupied while her husband and sons tended to the family coffee plantation in Ceylon.
