Hassan Hurd. Hassan Hurd is the drummer for The Coup. Hassan grew up in the church and was first known as a gospel drummer. In the 2010s, all the other original members except Kendall Jones rejoined the band for various reunion tours and anniversary activities. As of April 2024, the lineup consists of Moore, Dowd, guitarist Mark Phillips, bassist Aroyn Day, and drummer Hassan Hurd.

There are correlations between The Coup and other Oakland titans, Digital Underground, in that both had a gaggle of studio players that added to their overall sound, despite many being unaware of the deep-level musicianship strewn throughout their work.
