Charles Edward Perugini (1 September 1839 – 22 December 1918), originally Carlo Perugini, was an Italian-born English painter of the Romantic and Victorian era . Biography. Perugini was born in Naples, but lived with his family in England from the ages of six to 17.
Perugini was a most interesting artist. His paintings were fastidiously painted, highly finished, with subtle integrated colouring, and at their best quite simply wonderful aesthetic pictures. Despite the Italian name, and his birth in Naples, the artist spent the great part of his life in England.

Ele passou sua infância na Inglaterra e adquiriu a nacionalidade inglesa, mas voltou à Itália para estudar arte com Giuseppe Bonolis e Giuseppe Mancinelli . Ele então se mudou para Paris, onde trabalhou com Ary Scheffer .

This sketch for The Green Lizard — the finished painting was exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1902 (location unknown) — reflects the influence of the prominent British artist Fredric Leighton, for whom Perugini worked as an artist’s model.
Throughout his career, Perugini continued to paint portraits and genre paintings that displayed his love for the ancient times in Greece and Rome and a great influence from Leighton and his fellow Neo-Classical artists.
