Filippo I Colonna (1578-1639) erected the Palace of Paliano around 1623 next to the Collegiate Church of St. Andrew, the main church in town, where the family chapel housing the tombs of some among the leading exponents of the Colonna family already was.
In 1627 Anna Colonna, daughter of Filippo I Colonna, married Taddeo Barberini of the family Barberini; nephew of Pope Urban VIII.
Un’antica famiglia romana la cui storia inizia nove secoli fa. Il primo esponente documentato è infatti Pietro, vissuto tra il 1078 e il 1108 nella campagna al sud di Roma, nei pressi del paese di Colonna, che dá il nome alla casata.

A nephew of Carlo Borromeo and grand nephew of Gian Giacomo Medici, he married Lucrezia Tomacelli, dei signori di Galatro (1576-1622) in 1597.
