Her family moved in 1794 to Lexington, where her father had substantial land holdings through his activities as one of the organizers of the Transylvania Company. Thomas Hart Clay’s wife was Marie Mentelle. Green – The Woodlands owned by James Erwin and his wife, Anne Brown Clay, as it was when auctioned in 1852. Yellow – The main Ashland estate as it was when auctioned in 1853. It was bought at auction by James Brown Clay.
