Starting as a predominantly power / speed metal band with heavy symphonic elements, they later gravitated towards a progressive sound with an emphasis on ballads.

As he stated in Flight 666, he is a huge fan of Piece of Mind, Alice Cooper, Led Zeppelin, Rush, and Black Sabbath. In an interview with MTV he said Black Sabbath "set the standard for all heavy bands to come".
