For health reasons, the winner of the 1918 election, Rodrigues Alves, never took office, and his vice president Delfim Moreira ruled the country for around eight months until a successor was chosen.

The club's first match was played against Sport Club Futebol on March 21, 1909; Atlético won 3–0, with the first goal scored by Aníbal Machado. [3]
